Score through the existing caulk with a sharp utility knife where it meets the tub and the wall. Lift one end of the caulk and pull it away from the seam.
Scrape the seam with a plastic putty knife to remove any residual caulk. Clean the surface of the tub at the seam with plastic pad and wipe it dry.
Place painter's tape on the wall, 1/4 inch above the tub. Run the tap the complete length of the tub. Place painter's tape on the top of the tub, 1/4 inch away from the wall, in the same manner. Repeat for the front and rear of the tub. This helps you obtain a straight line when caulking.
Cut the tip of a tube of silicone bathroom caulk at a 45-degree angle with a utility knife. Insert a nail into the tip and pierce the top of the caulk tube. Place the caulk tube in your caulk gun.
Start at one corner, and apply an even bead of caulk in the seam between the tube and wall with the caulk gun. Apply caulk to the front and rear seams, starting at the corner.
Moisten the tip of your finger with water and gently run your finger over the caulk. This smoothes out the caulk. Remove the painter's tape and allow the caulk to cure for 24 hours.
