How to Install Hardware on a Therma-Tru Patio Door

The door hardware, hinges and locks, of your Therma-Tru patio door are an integral part of the door's appearance and function. Usually attached during installation, the door hardware can be customized to suit any room. Installing your own hinges and lock, or the ones provided by Therma-Tru, is relatively straightforward using common household tools. Make sure all hardware purchased separately fits the door before you start.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the hinge nearest the top of the door in position and mark through the screw holes with a pencil. Drill 1/8-inch diameter guide holes into the wood of the door at each marking, and screw the hinge in place with the 10 2 1/2-inch screws provided. Repeat for the process for each hinge down the side of the door.

    • 2

Slide the latch into position via the hole on the side of the door and use the screws provided to hold it in place. Make sure the curved side of the latch is pointing the right way. If the latch doesn't sit flush, use a hammer and chisel to chip away some of the door behind the screw plate of the latch. Screw the strike plate to the door frame, carefully chiselling away any wood if necessary.

Push the outer door handle into the hole on the outside of the door, inserting the square spindle through the hole in the latch. Push the inner door handle onto the spindle from the opposite side and tighten the screws in position. Test the handle by turning the knob or pulling the handle. Make sure the lock moves properly.
