Dell Patch & Concrete Repair

Concrete is among the most widely used materials in modern construction. It is so extensively used because of its durability and resistance to harsh weather. A simple patch, sometimes called a dell patch, is used to help repair both the function and overall look of the concrete as it ages or develops cracks. Dell patches require the use of vinyl patch material or masonry crack filler. The specific repair technique you'll want to apply will vary depending on the severity and location of the damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean all debris from the crack using a wire brush or broom.

    • 2

Undercut the edges of cracks that are more than a quarter-inch in width. This requires using a small sledge hammer and chisel to angle the crack so it is wider at the base than at the surface.

    • 3

Fill the crack with either masonry crack filler or a vinyl patching compound designed for use with concrete.

    • 4

Smooth with a putty knife or trowel. The patch should have a smooth, flat surface identical to the existing concrete.

    • 5

Allow the patch material to dry. The exact amount of time will vary depending on the size of the crack and amount of moisture that is present.

    • 6

Use a wire brush to smooth the surface to match the surrounding concrete if necessary.
