How to Glue a Metal Backsplash to the Kitchen Wall

Metals such as tin and aluminum are attractive alternatives for a kitchen counter backsplash. The metal backsplash can cover a whole wall or just the upper edges of the counter. There are two ways of installing a metal backsplash: using screws to secure it, or gluing it to the kitchen wall. The process is the same whether you're working with tin or aluminum.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the wall where you will attach the metal backsplash, using a damp rag. This helps ensures proper adhesion.

    • 2

Place a towel or sheet on the counter to protect the backsplash, then lay it face down on the cloth.

    • 3

Apply a 1/2-inch bead of construction adhesive around the perimeter of the metal backsplash with a caulk gun. Start the bead 2 inches away from the edges. Add another bead in the center of the backsplash.

    • 4

Lift the backsplash by its edges and set it against the wall above the counter. Press it firmly against the wall to ensure good adhesion.

    • 5

Stretch painter's tape across the length of the backsplash, overlapping it 6 inches on each side. The painter's tape help keep the backsplash in place while the adhesive cures. Take the tape off after 24 hours.
