A Rigid Vacuum Filter Fit Problem

Vacuum cleaner filters are designed to remove particles from the air that the vacuum system draws in. They are used on more advanced units, especially wet/dry vacuum cleaners and cleaners designed to remove dust from the air as they work. If you are noticing a problem with your Ridgid vacuum cleaner filter when you try to replace it or fit it back in your cleaner, you may need a new or different filter.
  1. Replacement Filter Type

    • When you buy a replacement filter for your vacuum cleaner, do proper research and buy the right type. If the filter does not fit, double check what type you have. You may have bought a dry-only filter for your wet/dry model. You may have purchased a long-lasting, washable filter when your Ridgid model actually uses disposable filter bags.

    Filter Size

    • If you have the right filter type, check your filter size next. Generic filters are designed to fit multiple systems and may not have a precise fit for your cleaner. Consult manufacturer websites and find filters that are made for your specific model to get the best fit. Some size difference may be unavoidable, especially with washable filters, since the company may have produced new filters with slightly different sizes than old versions.

    Washing Filters

    • If you have a washable Ridgid filter, treat it carefully. Fitting problems can be caused by damage from dropping the filter or mis-using it when you take it out to clean it. The filter is also made of plastic parts which may become warped if you try soaking the filter in water that is too hot. Use lukewarm water, clean the filter carefully, and set it in a safe place to dry to avoid fitting issues later on.

    Solutions

    • The easiest solution to a fitting problem is buying a new filter, but first try to make your old filter work. If it is not heavily damaged and has only minor fitting issues, try using your vacuum cleaner to see if it operates correctly and has the same level of efficiency as before. If you just bought a new filter that does not seem to fit as well, try using the cap from your old filter to see if it will improve installation.
