Can I Patch Quartz Countertops?

Quartz countertops are actually made of an engineered material that contains quartz, usually in a concentration between 67 and 73 percent. Quartz-engineered countertops are known for their sturdiness. However, they are not indestructible and may chip or crack. Fortunately, they can be patched.
  1. Do-It-Yourself Method

    • Believe it or not, small chips and cracks on the surface of your quartz countertop can be patched with regular super glue. The glue serves as a filler. This works because glue dries to a translucent color, blending in with the color of quartz countertops. Note, however, that if your quartz countertop is pigmented rather than the natural quartz color, your repair may not blend in as well.

    Instructions

    • Start by cleaning your quartz countertop using the cleaning agent you normally use. Be sure to clean in the chip or crack. A toothbrush works well for this job. Debris in the chip or crack you’ll be patching up could prevent the glue filler from adhering well. Being careful not to get glue anywhere else in your countertop, fill the chip or crack with glue. Let it dry fully. If the area where you applied glue is slightly raised, you’ll need to make it level. Do this by carefully slicing off the excess with a razor blade.

    Professional Help

    • Some companies offer repair service for quartz countertops. They can repair chips in your countertop using a filler that does the same job of the superglue, but with pigment that’s matched to the precise or near-precise color of your counter. This can be a better solution if your counter is a vibrant or dark color and you fear that translucent superglue might not blend in.

    Warranties

    • Manufacturers of quartz countertops often offer warranties for their products that last a long time -- sometimes as many as 15 years. If your counter is still under warranty, check your warranty to see if chips are covered under it. You may be able to have the manufacturer professionally repair your countertop at no cost to you or replace it altogether. Also, check if a DIY repair will void your warranty.
