DIY for a Cold Basement Laundry Room

Because basements are built underground, it's common for this area to remain cold in the winter. This situation isn't a problem if you rarely visit your basement. However, if your laundry room is in the basement, you might explore inexpensive ways to heat this part of your home.

Instructions

Install a portable fireplace. Purchase these movable, lightweight fireplaces from department stores or home decor retailers. Position the portable fireplace against a wall in the basement laundry room and connect the fireplace to a power source. These fireplaces run on electricity and do not require gas or wood.

Situate electrical heaters on both sides of the basement. Keep one heater near the entrance and another one near a back corner. Use an electrical heater with a thermostat and timer. These heaters turn on and off as needed to maintain the desired temperature. Turn off heaters before leaving the house or going to bed.

Use a solar window heater. Locate a window in your basement laundry room that faces south. Station the solar heat panel next to this basement window. Connect the panel to a power source, and the panel will draw in heat from the sun and provide natural warm to your basement.
