Instructions

    • 1

Park your car on a flat surface, put the transmission in park and apply the emergency brake.

    • 2

Place a hard, sturdy object such as a block of wood behind a back tire and another one in front of the front tire to help prevent the vehicle from rolling.

    • 3

Remove the hubcap with a flat-head screwdriver or the tire iron by pushing the end between the hubcap and the wheel and pushing the tool toward the car to pry the hubcap off.

    • 4

Loosen a lug nut with the tire iron, then loosen the lug nut across from it. Repeat for the other lug nuts.

    • 5

Place the car jack under the car frame where your vehicle's owner manual indicates. Most car jacks should be placed just behind the front wheels or just in front of the back wheels.

    • 6

Place the metal hook that comes with the car jack into the circle on the side of the jack. Turn the metal hook clockwise until the jack lifts the car just high enough so the tire is off the ground.

    • 7

Remove the lug nuts and pull the wheel off the wheel studs. Place the spare tire and wheel on the studs.

    • 8

Tighten the lug nuts by turning them with your hands and then tightening them further with the tire iron.

    • 9

Turn the jack counterclockwise to lower the car. Remove the jack and the objects blocking the wheel.
