How Do I Take Apart My Porter Cable Drywall Sander Head?

Sander heads dish out punishment to uneven surfaces. They grind away at rough surfaces to smooth them out. But over time, the sander head itself will become worn out. The assembly may hang in tatters or the sander's abrasive pad may become dull. But thankfully, the sander head components can be taken apart and replaced when need be. And, if you own a Porter Cable drywall sander, you can disassemble the sander's head with a few common tools found in almost any toolbox.

Instructions

    • 1

Switch off your sander's power, and then disconnect its power cord from any outlet into which it may be plugged. Put on a pair of cloth gloves.

    • 2

Secure the sander's abrasive pad with one hand. Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the screw from the center of the pad. Remove the screw and its washer, and then remove the abrasive pad. Set each disassembled component aside for safekeeping.

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the six screws from the circumference of the sander head. Set the screws aside with the other disassembled components. Replace any of the parts as needed.
