How to Fix Vertical Blind Slats on Sliding Glass Doors

Vertical blinds that cover sliding glass doors may suffer abuse from people walking through them while they are closed, or not opening the blinds properly, which may cause the blind vane to crack off the clip that holds it into place. Since the cutout on the top of the blind vane is so small, and the blind vane is so thin, it does not take much to break a blind vane off the clip. When the blind vane rips, it will no longer hook to the clip. With a quick and easy tip, you can repair the blind vane and avoid having to purchase a new vane.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide a vane saver onto the top of the blind vane so that the vane saver clips onto both sides of the vane. A vane saver is a small piece of metal that you can buy at hardware or home improvement stores.

    • 2

Line up the hole in the vane saver to the hole where the original blind vane hole was.

    • 3

Pinch both sides of the vane saver with pliers to tighten the grip of the vane saver onto the blind vane.

    • 4

Reattach the blind vane to the vertical blind rod’s clip by sliding the hole over the notch on the clip until the blind vane hangs securely.
