How to Remove Firebrick Panels Inside a Majestic BR36 Fireplace

Replacing firebrick panels in a fireplace is a bit different than removing individual firebricks. Firebrick panels act as refractory panels, bouncing back heat and light from he fireplace as well as protecting the firebox. Removing firebrick panels inside a Majestic BR36 fireplace requires removing some hardware that helps keep the panels in place. Although you are not working with the gas directly, it is a good idea to shut the valve off at the supply tank before removing the firebrick panels.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Majestic BR36 fireplace doors, and lay a sheet in front of the fireplace. Lift the logs out of the fireplace, and place them on the sheet. Pull the log grate out of the fireplace and place it with the logs.

    • 2

Stick your head inside the firebox and look for the retaining clips holding the panels. There is an angle retainer on the top line of bricks on each panel.

    • 3

Remove the screw securing the retaining clips to the frame of the fireplace with a nut driver. If necessary, use a socket wrench with a 1/4-inch socket for more leverage. Carefully pry each retainer clip away from the firebrick panel and firebox with a flat-head screwdriver.

    • 4

Insert the flat-head screwdriver between the top of the rear firebrick panel and the firebox. Gently pry the top of the panel forward. Once there is enough room to get your fingers behind the panel, grab it and slowly pull it toward you. Remove the panel from the firebox.

    • 5

Slide a putty knife between the firebox and top front corner of each side panel. Pry the panels toward the center of the firebox, and lift them away from the unit. Use care when lifting the side panels away from the firebox to ensure there is no damage to the gas lines.
