How to Insulate CPVC

Unlike polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl compound is gray instead of white and it can contain both hot and cold water. Just as with all other plumbing pipes within the home, CPVC requires insulation in any unheated areas. Insulating the CPVC pipes requires only the use of foam insulation covers available at any hardware store.

Instructions

    • 1

Walk to one end of the CPVC pipe and measure from the end to the location where it exits the building to determine how long to cut the insulation sleeve. If the CPVC pipe has bends in it, measure each straight section separately.

    • 2

Measure the foam pipe insulation covers to the same length and cut them using a utility knife.

    • 3

Locate the slit that runs the length of the foam and open it up so you can slide it over the CPVC pipe. Once it is in the proper location, peel off the protective backing from inside the slit and press the foam back together to secure it.

    • 4

Repeat the process to apply foam insulation covers to all remaining sections of the CPVC pipe.

    • 5

Walk back along the pipe and locate each seam between two sections of the foam. Wrap the seams with adhesive backed foam tape to hold it in place and to provide further insulation.
