How to Install the Top Front Rail on a Mobile Home

One of the final steps when installing your mobile home skirting is installing the top front rail. The top front rail helps secure the skirting panels in place, preventing them from blowing away during high winds. The back rail is flat except for a C-channel at the top of the rail. The top front panel locks into the back rail C-channel, locking the top of the skirting panels in between. Installing the top front rail on a mobile home is a straightforward process.

Instructions

Insert the skirting panels into the bottom rail. The top of the skirting panels rest against the back top rail. Some manufactures suggest securing the panel with screws through the top of the panel and into the back rail. If your skirting requires screws, install them with a nut driver bit in a drill.

Hold the top front rail against the back rail. The top of the top front rail should be 1-inch below the top channel of the back rail.

    • 3

Press the top front rail against the back rail and push the top of the front rail behind the channel at the top of the back rail. This sometimes requires a little force, depending upon the thickness of the skirting panels. It is best to push in near the top of the front rail rather than the middle of the rail.

Continue pushing the top front rail under the channel of the back rail until it locks into place. You will hear the channels lock together.
