My Helo Sauna Is Not Heating

Ventilation

• If you do not have the proper ventilation arranged in a helo sauna, it may not heat up or regulate the temperature properly. If you have a wood-burning sauna, you should install the supply air valve next to, and below, the sauna heater. Place the exhaust air valve in the ceiling. If the sauna has an electric heater and the inlet is above the heating element, install the exhaust as low as possible. For example, the helo website recommends installing the exhaust under the benches in the sauna, on the side opposite of the heater.

Door Tightness

• You should use a door constructed for a helo and make sure you close it tightly when you want to take a sauna bath. Most helo doors measure 2 feet by 6.66 feet. Any glass used on doors is properly sealed and may have double panes. While the doors are not airtight, they only allow a minimal amount of heat to escape through the jamb. Additionally, heat should not escape through light fixtures installed in the ceiling or walls and wall panels.

Heater Output

• If your helo sauna heater is set to a low temperature, it will feel like the sauna is not heating. Alternatively, if you have a heat-storing sauna, it does not stay warm or preheat. Instead, the vulcanite stones retain heat. Wall sauna heaters can take longer than heat-storing saunas to preheat. When there is no heat output at all, there may be damage to the heat sensor or heating circuit. helo recommends using vulcanite mineral stones in the sauna heaters, which you should replace regularly. For example, if you use the sauna once a week, replace the stones once a year. If you use the sauna three times per week, replace the stones three times a year.

Thermal Insulation

• Failure to insulate a helo sauna can cause heat to escape the sauna room. The helo company does not install wall studs or ceiling joists so you can install insulation according the location of your sauna and/or geographic location. If you install a sauna room indoors, you may not need thick insulation. When installing a sauna outdoors, base the type of insulation you use on your geographic location, as if you are going to use the sauna during the coldest time of the year.
