How to Repair a Bamboo Floor With a Popping Sound

Popping noise coming from bamboo floor can be due to the natural expansion and contraction of the bamboo or because of space between the bamboo and the subfloor. Noise that comes from normal expansion and contraction occurs whether someone is walking on the floor or not, and may develop anywhere on the floor. Noise that comes from voids under the bamboo typically make noise when they are stepped on and are always in the same spot.

Instructions

    • 1

Find any voids in the floor. Knock on the floor around the popping noise until you can pinpoint the hollow sound.

    • 2

Stick a piece of painter's tape on the spot that sounds hollow. This marks the spot where you will need to work.

    • 3

Pound a nail punch into the wood, through the painter's tape, to create a starter hole.

    • 4

Drill through the bamboo, using the nail punch hole as a guide.

    • 5

Inject floor adhesive, made for bamboo and hardwood flooring, into the hole, using a syringe. Do not stand or lean on the boards where you are working, as the weight will push the adhesive back out of the hole. Continue to fill the hole until it stops spreading under the boards.

    • 6

Use a small piece of wooden dowel to plug the drill hole. Tap it lightly so that it is flush with the bamboo flooring and will stay in place.

    • 7

Color the dowel with a marker that matches the floor, or spread matching wood putty over the dowel so that you cannot see the patch on the floor.
