Back-flush Toilet Instructions

Troubleshooting and fixing a back-flush toilet can be done without the aid of a plumber. Your back-flush toilet can become low on water and have difficulty flushing if the water supply valve has been adjusted improperly or if the fill valve is loose and needs adjustment. You can repair these problems even if you have no experience with plumbing or operating on back-flush toilets. Special tools are not required.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure the water supply valve on the back-flush toilet is open. This valve is at the bottom rear of the outside of the toilet and must be turned counterclockwise to open it.

    • 2

Remove the lid from the top of the back-flush toilet to get to the tank if the toilet is sluggish in flushing or is not flushing at all.

    • 3

Remove any existing water in the tank by pulling down on the toilet's flushing handle until all the water exits the tank. You will need to hold the handle down the whole time.

    • 4

Locate the toilet's fill valve. It will be along the side of the tank's base. Ensure the fill valve is tightened appropriately by twisting the coupling at its base with clockwise movements using a socket wrench.

    • 5

Remove the coupling from the tank if tightening it does not fix the flushing problem. Use the socket wrench to remove the coupling with counterclockwise adjustments.

    • 6

Remove the fill valve by pulling it out from the tank now that it's been loosened.

    • 7

Grease the gasket on the end of the back-flush toilet's fill valve by applying a thin layer of silicone grease to it.

    • 8

Set the fill valve back into place within the toilet's tank and tighten it into place by reconnecting the coupling with your socket wrench.

    • 9

Twist the water supply valve counterclockwise to create water flow to the toilet once more. Slide the tank's lid back into place.
