How to Make a Template for an Undermount Sink

Many manufacturers include a template with their undermount sinks. The template is an exact outline of the sink, including its width, length and any curved corners, and is used as a guide to cut the opening in the countertop. If your sink didn't come with a template or you've lost it, contact the manufacturer to obtain a replacement or create one using a few art tools.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the opening of the sink bowls from side to side and front to back. Make a note of the measurements for each sink bowl as well as the overall width from side to side.

    • 2

Place a piece of clear tracing paper over the face of the sink.

    • 3

Spread the paper taut across the sink openings, and hold it in place securely with painter's tape on all four sides.

    • 4

Trace the outline of the sink with a grease pencil. Use the outline of the sink bowls, not the flat lip surrounding the sink.

    • 5

Remove the tracing paper. Measure the sink outline on the tracing paper to verify that the dimensions match up with your earlier measurements. If correct, use the outline on the tracing paper as your template. If it does not match up, go back and measure the sink or trace the sink bowls again.
