How to Keep Fiberglass Doors From Warping

Constant exposure to heat and moisture can trigger warping in doors. This exposure causes doors to bend out of shape or appear distorted, and a warped door can ruin the appearance of your exterior. Some fiberglass doors have wood grains molded into the construction, which makes these doors susceptible to warping. It's usually costly to replace a door, but you can alleviate this expense by properly caring for your fiberglass door.

Delay installation for 24 to 36 hours. New doors must acclimate, or adjust to their new environment. Slide the door out of the box and remove any plastic covering. Lean the door against a wall and wait at least one day to hang the door.

Put a tarp on the floor and lay the fiberglass door on top of the tarp. Choose a large, well ventilated area.

Apply sealant to the door. Cover the front side of the fiberglass door with a protective sealant. Apply sealant to all four sides of the door. Wait for the sealant to dry and then apply a coat to the back side. Repeat the process to apply a second coat, and then hang the door once the finish dries.
