How to Fix a Hot Tub Cover When It Ripped in Half

A hot tub cover protects your tub and water from the elements and debris when it's not in use. While hard tops are more durable, many owners opt for the less expensive vinyl cover. Minor rips and tears can be repaired with a vinyl repair kit, but duct tape is likely your only option when repairing a vinyl cover that has been torn in half. Because covers are expensive, duct tape is a cheap alternative. If the cover is practically destroyed, it might be time to invest in a new one.

Instructions

    • 1

Find and purchase a roll of duct tape that matches your vinyl hot tub cover's color.

    • 2

Remove the cover from the hot tub and stretch it out in your backyard. Allow it time to dry completely before attempting to tape it back together. Wait for both sides to dry before continuing.

    • 3

Use the tape measure to measure out how long your duct tape pieces should be.

    • 4

Cut the tape with the scissors, cutting at least two strips to cover each side.

    • 5

Press the pieces of tape along the tear, adhering the two pieces of the cover together. Push down on the tape and run your hand along it, ensuring it adheres well and no air is trapped between the tape and the cover.
