How to Install a Toto Aquia on a Closet Flange

Installing a Toto Aquia toilet is a bit different than installing a standard one. This is due largely to the separate flush mechanism that helps reduce water consumption. The modular rough-in is not seen once the installation is complete. Installing a Toto Aquia on a closet flange requires at least a 12-inch rough-in between the center of the toilet closet flange and the wall. The design of the Toto Aquia also eliminates the unsightly ends of the closet bolts that you see holding down traditional toilet bowls.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the closet bolts into the closet flange. The bolt heads slide into the keyhole slots on each side of the closet flange. Place the modular rough-in socket over the closet flange with the threads of the bolts going through the holes on the socket. The socket looks similar to a shallow plate.

    • 2

Position the template over the socket. The template has the location of each mounting screw for the modular rough-in plumbing and mounting blocks. Mark each location on the floor with a pencil. Remove the template from the floor.

    • 3

Drill pilot holes at each of your marks by the closet with an 11/64-inch drill bit. If mounting to a tile or concrete floor, drill the holes with a 5/16-inch bit to accommodate plastic anchors. Drill tile with a carbide-tip bit and concrete with a masonry bit.

    • 4

Make holes with a 3/32-inch drill bit for the modular rough-in, which are the four outer holes, and 11/64-inch holes for the mounting blocks. If you have concrete or tile, drill 9/32-inch holes for the modular rough-in and 11/32-inch for the mounting blocks.

    • 5

Insert green plastic anchors into each of the holes for the modular rough-in, if mounting to tile or concrete. Insert white plastic anchors into the remaining pilot holes. Tap all anchors with a hammer until they are flush with the floor surface.

    • 6

Place the socket on the floor with the bottom facing toward you. Install the wax ring around the recess around the opening. Flip the socket right side up and position it over the closet flange. Press the socket down to set the wax seal. Install the mounting screw into the top and bottom of the flange with a cordless screwdriver or flat-head screwdriver.

    • 7

Position the modular rough-in over the socket, ensuring the closet bolts go through the holes on the side of the rough-in. Place a flat washer over each closet bolt and thread a nut on each one until they are hand-tight against the socket. Tighten each nut evenly with a wrench.

    • 8

Install the mounting screws into the rough-in and tighten with the cordless screwdriver or a flat-head screwdriver. Position the mounting blocks on each side of the rough-in on the floor, and secure with the mounting screws.

    • 9

Set the Toto Aquia bowl over the modular rough-in, aligning the mounting hole on each side with the threaded hole on the mounting blocks. Secure the bowl to the mounting blocks with the securing bolt. The mounting bolts have a center hole with threads. Insert the decorative cap stem into the hole and turn it clockwise until it is against the bowl. The Toto Aquia is now mounted to the closet flange and ready for the tank and water lines.
