Place a step ladder behind the Craftsman garage door opener power head. The power head is the motor of the Craftsman door opener.
Climb the ladder and unplug the power cord from the outlet in the ceiling. All residential garage door openers use a power cord like most other appliances in your home.
Find the wires that run from the sensors to the motor. Simply follow the path of the wires from the sensors to where they are stapled to the ceiling. The wires connect to the back of the opener on older models, while newer models have the connections behind the lens cover on the right side of the motor.
Remove the lens cover from the opener if the wires connect behind the cover. Some Craftsman openers use two screws at the top of the cover that require removal with a nut driver. Some models simply require squeezing the top and the bottom of the lens cover inward to release the tabs on the cover from slots on the opener. Still others have a release button on the side of the opener that you push to release the cover.
Disconnect the sensor wires from the terminal block on the Craftsman opener. Older models use terminal screws requiring a Phillips screwdriver to turn the screws counterclockwise. Newer models use a quick-connect terminal block. If you have a quick-connect terminal block, push the tab below the wire connection down and pull the wire out of the block.
