How to Replace the Door Boot on a Frigidaire

If you find your Frigidaire washer is leaking around the front door, it may be a sign that your washer's door boot is cracked or torn. The gasket can get damaged if you stuff too many clothes in the washer or leave clothes on the gasket when the door is closed. The tub boot is the large rubber gasket that seals the door to the washer tub.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the model number of your washer on the back panel of the washing machine. Order the correct boot for your model from a Frigidaire dealer. If your machine is still under warranty, contact Frigidaire customer service or your local dealer so you can get a boot directly from one of them.

    • 2

Unplug your washer and pull it away from the wall, so that you can work behind it. Turn off the water as well.

    • 3

Remove the top panel by unscrewing the screws on the top back, which would be the case for most front-loading models. Remove the front panel by taking off the screws at the top and bottom.

    • 4

Open the washer door and remove the retaining spring clamp that is around the front of the boot. Pull the spring away from the boot using a pair of needle-nose pliers and clamping the two ends of the spring.

    • 5

Remove the boot that is on the washer by cutting it away with a razor or utility knife at the places where it is glued into the rim.

    • 6

Push the loose part of the boot into the tub of the washer. It will, at this point, still be attached to the area on the tub where the soap and water enters the washer.

    • 7

Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to loosen the clamp around the rinse hose at the top of the boot. Pull the rinse hose away from the boot by pulling down on the boot and up on the rinse hose. Release the rear retaining spring and pull the boot away from the washer.

    • 8

Rub a tablespoon of dish soap through the rear groove in the new boot.

    • 9

Place the new boot, at the slot, over the tab and arrow on the top lip of the washer drum. Pull the groove of the boot over the lip of the drum.

    • 10

Replace the rinse hose and tighten the clamp.

    • 11

Use super glue to glue the boot back in place. Reglue it at small spots on the drum, not over the entirety of the drum.

    • 12

Place the panels back on the washer, turn the water back on, and plug in the washer.
