Check the structure of the door before adjusting the opener. Inspect it for warping or sagging. Place the hook of a tension rod into each corner of the door. Turn the turnbuckle using a wrench to tension the door until it is straight.
Check the extension springs for sagging. Have the sagging springs serviced by a professional. The springs are under high tension and are very dangerous to work on.
Set a ladder up under the garage door opener if it will not open or close completely. Locate the limit adjustment screws on the back of the unit. Turn the up limit adjustment screw clockwise one turn for each 3 inches of travel. The up limit is marked with an up arrow. Increase the down travel by turning the adjustment screw counterclockwise one turn for each 3 inches of travel. Decrease the down travel if the door almost closes then changes direction.
