How to Troubleshoot a Chamberlain Steel Craft Garage Door

Chamberlain Steel Craft makes a series of garage door openers that are remote controlled and programmable. As long as the garage door opener is properly adjusted and the door itself is not sticking, the door should move freely up and down without problem. If the garage door does not fully close or does not open completely, the door may be causing the opener to stick or the opener may not be properly adjusted.

Instructions

Check the structure of the door before adjusting the opener. Inspect it for warping or sagging. Place the hook of a tension rod into each corner of the door. Turn the turnbuckle using a wrench to tension the door until it is straight.

Check the extension springs for sagging. Have the sagging springs serviced by a professional. The springs are under high tension and are very dangerous to work on.

Set a ladder up under the garage door opener if it will not open or close completely. Locate the limit adjustment screws on the back of the unit. Turn the up limit adjustment screw clockwise one turn for each 3 inches of travel. The up limit is marked with an up arrow. Increase the down travel by turning the adjustment screw counterclockwise one turn for each 3 inches of travel. Decrease the down travel if the door almost closes then changes direction.
