Removing Aluminum Soffit Panels

Aluminum soffit panels are used to cover the eaves and underhangs on homes to protect them from the elements. The soffits are held in place by a J-channel attached to the side of the house and by screws on the underside of the eaves. Removing aluminum soffit panels doesn't require any specialized equipment, but a tall ladder is usually necessary to reach high spots.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any downspouts or gutters attached to the outside of the trim panels by prying out the nails or loosening the screws attaching them in place with a hammer or prybar. Use the ladder, if needed, to reach high areas.

    • 2

Pull off the trim panels on the exterior face of the roof. Depending on their installation, these might be connected with screws or nails.

    • 3

Loosen the screws on the soffit panels connecting them to the underside of the roof.

    • 4

Lower the soffit panel and slide it out of the J-channel at the rear. Set the panel aside.

    • 5

Continue working your way down the side of the roof, unscrewing the soffit panels and pulling them out of the J-channel until you have removed all the panels.
