How to Install a Dayton Steel Undermount Sink

Replacing your current sink with a Dayton steel undermount sink requires ordering a sink that fits the current hole in your countertop. Measure the length and width of the opening, and order a compatible Dayton steel sink. You will need some assistance to install the sink, as someone must hold the sink in place from the top of the counter while you install it under the counter. Undermount sinks are secured to the countertop using caulk and sink clips.

Instructions

    • 1

Go under the countertop with the sink. Position the sink up to the bottom of the countertop. Ask your helper to hold the sink in place, using the sink's drain holes as grips. The sink should be centered on the opening in the countertop.

    • 2

Trace around the outside edge of the sink under the countertop. Lower the sink from the countertop and remove it from your work area.

    • 3

Install three sink clips on each side of the sink opening, with the securing screws 1/2 inch outside of your trace mark. Install the securing screws through the clips and into the bottom of the countertop with a Phillips screwdriver. Only tighten the screws halfway, allowing the clips to rotate freely. The sink clips are simple 3-inch flat pieces of metal.

    • 4

Rotate the clips so they are pointing in the same direction as the tracing. This keeps the clips out of the way while you install the sink.

    • 5

Apply a bead of silicone caulk around the top of the sink flange with a caulk gun. Maneuver the sink under the countertop, and again push it against the bottom of the countertop. Ask your helper to hold the sink in place from above.

Rotate the sink clips so that one end of each is over the sink flange. Tighten the securing screws with the Phillips screwdriver. Continue rotating and tightening all of the sink clips around the sink. The Dayton steel undermount sink now is installed in the countertop and is ready for plumbing and a faucet.
