The awning springs are under tension, so do not just pull the springs off the hardware. The recoil can cause injury to face, hands or eyes. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when removing the hardware pieces with the springs. Use cotter pins to hold the tension in the springs in place and use vise grips to keep the springs compressed if there is a need to remove them.
To purchase replacement vinyl fabric of the A&E awning you need to make a special order. The fabric is cut and sewn only after the order is placed. It takes longer to receive the fabric than a product that is already made. Replacement A&E awning fabric is not readily available in stores selling RV parts.
The A&E awning fabric is usually shipped out with no returns, because it is specific to the individual ordering it. The fabric is custom-cut by the manufacturer according to the measurements sent in by the RV owner. Triple-check your measurements before ordering the vinyl fabric replacement. Do not pull the old fabric off the awning frame and measure it. The old canvas may have shrunk or expanded. Measure the space between the center of the first bolt and the center of the last bolt on the awning arms.
A work crew of two to three people can make this job easier and quicker than when only one person works on this project. Extra hands can hold the fabric tight when positioning it in place. With extra people and the equipment laid out, it will take about three hours to replace the awning if no problems become manifest.
