Measure the length of your P-trap from the wall end of the trap to the front of the curve with a tape measure. Measure from the wall drain to the center of the composite granite sink drain basket. Subtract the P-trap measurement from the wall to sink strainer measurement.
Add 6 inches to your total measurement, and cut a piece of PVC drain pipe to the measurement with a hacksaw. Place a plastic compression ring over one end of the PVC pipe, and slide the ring down so it is 3 inches from the end. Place a slip nut over the opposite end with the threads of the nut pointing toward the compression ring.
Insert the compression ring end of the PVC pipe into the wall drain pipe. Do not thread the slip nut onto the wall pipe at this time. Slide another slip nut on the end of the new PVC wall pipe with the threads of the nut pointing away from the wall. Insert a flat washer ring into the end of the pipe.
Position the rear end of the P-trap against the end of the PVC wall pipe. Thread the slip nut on the end of the PVC wall pipe to the threads on the P-trap until the slip nut is hand tight. Align the upper portion of the P-trap even with the composite sink drain basket. The PVC wall pipe slides in and out of the house wall pipe to enable positioning of the P-trap.
Measure from the top of the threads on the sink drain basket to the top of the P-trap. Add an additional 3 inches to the measurement. Cut a piece of PVC to the measurement with a hacksaw.
Place slip nuts over each end of the PVC pipe and insert flat washer rings into each end. Push one end of the PVC pipe into the top of the P-trap. Align the opposite end of the pipe with the sink drain basket. Thread the slip nuts over the sink drain basket and the top of the P-trap until each is hand tight. Hand tighten the slip nut at the house wall pipe.
