Purchase lubrication grease appropriate for the pillow block fan's operating environment. For example, in saltwater-based environments, buy a grease that's resistant to the corrosive effects of salt. If your fan requires no special grease type, purchase an NLGI No. 2-rated lubricant, which is applicable to most operating environments.
Remove the dust cap from the grease bearing, typically located at the top of the pillow fitting. If needed, use a clean rag to wipe away any grease.
Connect the nozzle of the grease gun to the lubrication bearing inlet. Slowly press the trigger on the nozzle of the gun. Continue filling the pillow bearing until you see a small amount of lubricant seep out of the seals.
Replace the dust cap on the bearing.
Wipe away any grease seeping out from the ring or bearing seals with the rag.
