How to Hook Up a Pipe Burner

A pipe burner is used in a gas fireplace and is attached to the end of the gas feed pipe. It is cylindrical with evenly spaced holes on one side for the gas to escape. The burner is positioned so it runs parallel with and close to the bottom of the fireplace under the burner logs. Pipe burners come in different lengths to accommodate different-sized fireplaces. They are threaded onto the end of the gas feed pipe and tightened in place.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the threads on the end of the gas pipe feed using a wire brush. Wipe around the threads with a damp rag.

    • 2

Brush on thread compound around the gas pipe feed threads around all sides of the pipe.

    • 3

Screw the end of the pipe burner onto the gas pipe feed thread by hand. Use a pipe wrench to tighten it into place.

    • 4

Mix water and soap together. Dab the soapy water around the joint between the pipe burner and gas pipe feed with a small brush. Turn the gas on and light the burner. If any bubbles can be seen from the gas burner/pipe feed joint, turn the gas off and tighten the joint more with the wrench.
