How to Replace a Propane Regulator Hose

The propane regulator provides a key protective feature to the working of your gas grill. It controls the amount of propane gas going to your grill. The regulator also acts as a barrier between the propane tank and your grill. As with all grill parts, the regulator can break down due to excessive usage, harsh weather or debris, such as food, dirt and leaves. This includes the connective hoses. Worn regulator hoses can crack and leak gas, leading to a potentially hazardous situation. When this happens, you need to replace the hose immediately. The process is simple and inexpensive.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Put on the work gloves and go to the propane tank. Turn off the propane gas by twisting the tank valve to the right as far as it will go. For your safety, the tank must be off before you replace the hose.

    • 2

Disconnect the regulator hose from the propane tank by turning the coupling to the left.

    • 3

Go to the back of the grill's control panel. Locate where the hose connects to the grill's burner valve assembly. The connection looks like the threaded end of a garden hose. Turn the connector to the left to remove the hose. Sometimes buildup or rust makes it difficult to disconnect the hose by hand. If this is the case, apply a small amount of lubricant to the burner valve stem and the hose connector. Wait five minutes, then use the adjustable wrench to loosen the connector and remove the hose.

Connect the replacement hose to the grill's burner valve assembly. Tighten with the adjustable wrench.

Connect the regulator hose to the propane tank by turning the coupling to the right. Turn the gas tank back on by twisting the valve to the left.
