Close the main gas valve to shut off the gas supply to the home.
Apply degreaser to the broken area of the pipe to remove any grease. Remove any sealant tape and paint from the pipe.
Clean the pipe with a clean cloth soaked in soapy water. Dry the pipe with a clean cloth.
Rub the cracked area of the pipe with a sheet of coarse grit sandpaper.
Put on a pair of disposable latex gloves.
Fill a small bucket with water. Submerse the polyurethane repair roll in the water until it is thoroughly soaked. Remove the roll and squeeze it in your hands, once or twice, for five seconds at a time.
Wrap the polyurethane repair roll, which is a tape, around the broken pipe five to seven times. Keep the roll taut as you wrap the pipe. A resin will begin to soak through the tape. This is normal.
Continue wrapping until entire roll is gone. The entire break should be covered. If needed, use a second roll.
Dip your gloved hands in clean water. Squeeze your wet hands around the polyurethane tape to press the resin back into the tape.
Cure the tape until it is completely dry and hardened before opening the main gas valve. Curing is the process of letting the tape dry.
