What Is EFA Flooring Glue?

Bostic Corp. produces EFA Elastomeric Flooring Adhesive as a proprietary product. Builders use the adhesive for the installation of a variety of types of flooring. The material possesses a number of special traits for floor installations where moisture is a factor.
  1. It is Elastic

    • EFA forms an elastic bond between two materials when applied properly. The elasticity allows movement as the wood materials swell and contract due to changes in humidity. This allows a stable product, such as a ceramic tile or urethane impregnated wood floor tile, to be glued to a wood sub-floor that swells when moisture levels are high.

    It is Waterproof

    • EFA adhesive contains no water and dries to a waterproof consistency. Surrounding moisture has no effect on EFA, which maintains its elasticity over time.

    Installation

    • Apply EFA to the sub-floor using a notched trowel. Set the floor tiles in place as soon as possible after the placement of the adhesive. Tape tiles together to prevent shifting as new tiles are placed and pushed against the previous rows. Clean any spilled adhesive off finished surfaces using specialized proprietary cleaners made by Bostic. The adhesive dries enough for light traffic in about 10 hours and dries completely in about a day.

    Limitations

    • EFA dries quickly, especially in warm and humid conditions. The amount of time between spreading the adhesive and it becoming too solid to place tiles can be as little as an hour and a half. If the EFA adhesive has formed a dry skin, it is too late to place tiles. Clean the surface of the floor of all dust before applying the adhesive. Use only with hardwood laminate flooring for basement installation.
