Instructions

    • 1

Measure the size of your walkout basement to find out exactly how much concrete is needed for this project. Two square feet of concrete flooring at four inches deep is roughly equal to a 80 pound bag of concrete mix. Multiply the width by the length to get the square footage of the basement and the number of bags you must purchase.

Remove any items from the area in the basement workspace. Mark this area with a chalk line. Use scrap lumber to outline the perimeter of the basement floor. Attach them to the wall with a drill and screws.

    • 3

Lay wire mesh along the floor where the concrete is to be poured. Spread it out evenly so it covers the entire floor of your walkout basement. Rebar can be used instead of the wire mesh. Both help reinforce the floor underneath the concrete.

Mix the concrete in a wheelbarrow with the proper amount of water. Read the manufacturer's instructions carefully for this step. Begin spreading the concrete in one corner of the basement working right to left. Spread out the concrete with a gauge rake. Every few feet level it out with the smooth side of the rake. This step requires at least two people to completely cover the entire floor of the walkout.

Smooth out the concrete surface with a bull float just after pouring. This keeps the concrete level and even. Allow enough time for the concrete flooring to dry.
