How to Cut Snap-Lock Flooring

Snap-lock flooring is a laminate flooring that snaps together when installing. Often these types of flooring do not use any type of adhesive to allow them to expand and contract without buckling. Just like laying any other type of flooring, it is necessary to cut some of the flooring to length. Cutting snap-lock flooring requires a fine-tooth blade such as you use for cutting plywood. The fine tooth-blade reduces the chance of chipping the laminate.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure off the amount you need to cut with a tape measure and make the mark on the flooring. Make a straight line using a speed square or carpenter's square.

    • 2

Place the snap-lock flooring face up on a pair of saw horses. You must cut the flooring face up to help reduce chipping damage.

    • 3

Install a plywood saw blade into your circular saw. Fine-tooth plywood cutting blades cut through the snap-lock laminate without chipping the flooring.

    • 4

Plug the circular saw power cord into an outlet, and line up the blade with your cut line. Press the power trigger and allow the saw blade to cut through the snap-lock flooring by applying light pressure.

Alternatively you can use a miter saw with a plywood cutting blade.
