How to Apply Stone Hard Floor Coating

Stone floors are naturally porous, and will absorb dirt and stains over time. This leaves the floor looking dull and worn. Even hard stone floors such as marble have some porosity, and must be coated in a stone sealer to prevent staining. You can apply stone sealer to your hard stone floors yourself, which will provide your floor with a protective coating and give the floor a glossy shine. Impregnating sealers are the best sealers for hard stone floors.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrub the stone floor with a hard stone cleaner labeled for use on your specific type of stone. Follow the package directions for the amount to use. Rinse the floor with a wet mop.

    • 2

Leave the floor to air-dry thoroughly for eight hours or overnight. Fill a garden sprayer with the impregnating stone sealer.

    • 3

Spray the surface of the floor with the sealer, starting at the wall farthest from the door. Once you have been spraying for three minutes, go back over the already sprayed section with another layer.

    • 4

Continue wetting the floor in long, even strokes and rewetting sections after they have sat for three minutes. When the entire floor is done, let it sit for 30 minutes.

    • 5

Wipe off any excess puddling sealer with a clean, lint-free towel. Let the floor dry overnight.
