How to Install a Carpet Transition Strip on Concrete

A carpet transition strip is the metal strip used to transition from carpet to wood flooring or from carpet to tile. Usually, the strip is brass or some other type of metal. You use nails to nail the strip to the floor. When you need to secure the transition strip to concrete, however, you must use an alternative method since you cannot nail into concrete. You can use small concrete screws to complete the task.

Hammer drill
5/32-inch carbide drill bit
Vacuum cleaner
3/16-inch concrete screws
Screwdriver

Instructions

  Place the transition strip half over the edge of the carpet and half over the other flooring.

  Hold the strip in place while you drill down through the mounting holes on the strip and into the concrete floor with your hammer drill and your 5/32-inch carbide drill bit. Drill the holes 1 ½-inch deep.

  Vacuum the loose concrete from the holes with a vacuum cleaner.

  Place the 1-inch-long 3/16-inch diameter concrete screws into the holes and then tighten them in place with your screwdriver.
