Press the center of the cookie cutter tool on the center of the damaged carpet. Avoid the blades that surround the edge of the tool.
Press the cutter into the floor and twist to cut away the carpet.
Cut a round piece of double-sided adhesive carpet tape that's slightly larger than the patch hole.
Peel the cover off the adhesive-side of the carpet tape, then fold the tape slightly and insert it into the patch area.
Slice a patch from a new piece of carpet with the carpet tool and press the patch firmly onto the tape.
Cut four strips of scrap carpet, using the utility knife. Each strip will act as the side of a box that will be created around the damaged area.
Position the carpet strips around the damaged area to form a box, then drive tacks through the strips, using the hammer. The secured strips will keep the surrounding carpet in place and avoid wrinkles.
Cut a new carpet patch with the utility knife that almost completely fills the area inside the carpet strip box.
Position the carpet patch over the damaged area and slice through the old carpet with the utility knife, using the patch as a guide.
Lift the damaged carpet off the floor and install double-sided seam tape along all four sides of the patch area.
Position one end of the patch over one side of the box and roll the patch over the remaining tape pieces. Press the patch onto the tape to secure it.
