How to Cut Tennis Balls in Half for Chairs

Chair leg protectors help prevent scuffs on hardwood, tile and other floors. They are also useful in reducing the squeaky noises that occur when you scoot a chair on this type of flooring. Some chair leg protectors are expensive; the cost adds up when you need to use them to protect many chairs. Make your own chair leg protectors by cutting tennis balls in half. This is also an effective way to recycle worn out tennis balls.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the tennis ball in the palm of your non-dominant hand.

    • 2

Cut half the tennis ball carefully in a large "X" formation with the utility knife. Don't cut beyond the middle half of the ball. Utility knives are quite sharp, therefore an adult must cut the tennis ball in half.

    • 3

Ask an assistant to lift the chair leg while you spread open the "X" shape.

    • 4

Slip the tennis ball onto the chair leg and release the "X"-shaped area. This allows the tennis ball to adhere snugly to any size chair leg.

    • 5

Instruct the assistant to lower the chair leg to the floor. Repeat the steps with other tennis balls until you've covered all the chair legs.
