How to Seal Marble Floors Before Grouting

Marble tiles can be installed to create an elegant floor in any room of your home. Installing marble tile in main areas of your home, such as the entranceway, family room or kitchen, can give the décor an instant facelift. However, you need to know how to properly complete the installation process first. Polished marble tiles will not be affected by grout, so they do not need to be sealed. However, if you're working with tumbled marble tile, sealing is necessary before applying grout between the tile joints.

Instructions

    • 1

Allow the marble tiles to sit for about 12 hours after they're installed before sealing.

    • 2

Spray the marble floor using a marble sealer. For products that don't come in a spray-style bottle, transfer it to one first.

    • 3

Continue spraying the sealer until all surfaces of the marble are wet.

    • 4

Apply an additional coat of marble sealer as the first coat dries. The first coat will start to dry within five minutes of applying it.

    • 5

Wait half an hour. Then, remove any remaining sealer that has not penetrated the marble floor using a terry cloth.

    • 6

Remove excess sealer that has dried thicker than other areas using a buffing pad.

    • 7

Allow the sealer to cure for 48 hours before you apply grout.
