How to Cut Laminate Flooring With a Jigsaw Face Up

Replacing or adding new laminate flooring in your home can be a simple project, but the most important part is to make sure that the flooring fits in place. To ensure properly fitting laminate flooring, you must use a jigsaw or handsaw to cut the flooring. When using a jigsaw, you must cut in upward strokes with the blade facing up in order to prevent the laminate face from chipping.

Things You'll Need

  • Craft knife
  • Foam underlayment
  • Laminate floor piece

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the laminate flooring, using a craft knife.

    • 2

Place the underlayment, a thin sheet of foam, on the area where the new or old laminate pieces will go.

    • 3

Lay down the laminate flooring, starting in the left corner, and then leave a 10mm gap between the laminate pieces.

    • 4

Continue to add the laminate pieces until you get to the last piece, which you must cut.

    • 5

Use a measuring tape to determine where the flooring needs to be cut. Lay the final piece face down and use a pencil to mark a cut line.

    • 6

Use a jigsaw to cut the laminate flooring face down on a secure surface, and then cut down the line, using upward strokes with the jigsaw.

    • 7

Cut slowly with the upward stroke with the jigsaw blade face up, making sure to stay directly on the cutting line.

    • 8

Set the flooring piece in place to make sure it fits correctly once you're finished cutting. You can then remove the underlayment and glue down the laminate flooring, using tile adhesive.
