Remove dust from the floor with a vacuum cleaner or static sweeper. Keeping dust off of the floor's surface can prevent scuffing as the dust can be dragged against the floor's finish or ground into it by people walking on it.
Wipe off the floor in and around the scuffed area with mineral spirits to remove any dirt that's ground into the floor.
Cover the scuffs with coloring from a stain marker. This is a marking pen that contains a mix of stain and urethane and can cover the scuffs. Apply a liberal dose of the coloring to the scuffs, and wipe the excess material away with a clean, dry rag. If you can't find an exact match for your floor, use the color that is closest to your floor; if applied correctly, it will resemble the grain in the maple.
