How to Remove a High-Heel Dent From a Hardwood Floor

High heels concentrate a great amount of weight on small areas, which can leave dents on hardwood floors. Walking across a hardwood floor in high heels is comparable to striking the floor with a hammer with each step, due to the force and weight on the slender heels. Typically, high-heel dents are small depressions that do not break the wood fibers, making repairs less complicated than splintered-edged dents.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug a clothing iron into an electrical receptacle and set the heat to the highest setting.

    • 2

Pick up water in an eyedropper.

    • 3

Fill the high-heel dent with water.

    • 4

Position towels around the dent to protect the surface of the hardwood floor from the iron's heat.

    • 5

Place a damp rag over the dent.

    • 6

Set the hot iron over the damp rag and leave in place for 10 to 15 seconds.

    • 7

Remove the iron and lift the damp rag. Inspect the area to see if the steam caused the dent to raise flush with the rest of the floor. If the dent remains, place the damp rag over the dent and set the iron onto the damp rag for an additional 10 to 15 seconds. Remove the iron and rag and examine the dent. Continue to steam the dent for 10 to 15 seconds at a time and monitor the status of the dent until it is no longer visible.

Repeat Steps 2 through 7 for any additional dents.
