How to Make Wood Flooring Nonslip

Wood floors are beautiful additions to any residential home. However, homeowners may find that while hardwood is aesthetically pleasing, it is often slippery, particularly when walking over the floor in socks or slippers. To remedy this situation, you can apply a coat of no-slip to the wood, allowing the grain to shine through while making the floor significantly less slippery, reducing the chances of falling. To make your wood floor nonslip, you'll need several items.

Instructions

    • 1

Sweep the wood floor with a broom and dustpan, then vacuum the floor to get up all dust and dirt.

    • 2

Fill a bucket with water and add as much wood-floor cleaner and water as directed by the manufacturer. Clean the wood floor thoroughly with a mop and allow to air-dry.

    • 3

Apply anti-slip coating to the floor once it dries using a sponge, following the manufacturer's application instructions.

    • 4

Rinse out the mop and bucket with plain water. Combine in it one part white vinegar with two parts water.

    • 5

Apply the water/white vinegar solution to the floor once and repeat about every four days. This will increase the grip, keeping the wood floors nonslippery.
