Repairing Vinyl That Is Lifting

Vinyl floors are set on the floor with adhesive at the time of installation. Although the adhesive is strong, fluctuating temperatures in the house or water between the floor tiles may cause the adhesive to weaken at the vinyl seams. As the adhesive weakens, the floor may begin to curl up at the seam, causing tripping hazards and the possibility of further damage. A well done fix will be invisible and will hold for several years.

Instructions

    • 1

Sweep the area clean of dust.

    • 2

Mop the floor with floor detergent and a mop to remove any excess dust. Allow the floor to dry.

    • 3

Sponge the area underneath the curling floor and allow to dry.

    • 4

Mix together equal parts of the two-part floor adhesive in a bottle.

    • 5

Slide the tip of the adhesive bottle in between the seams and apply a bead of the glue under the area.

    • 6

Press down the tile edges onto the glue to adhere the tile to the floor. Wipe off any excess glue that pushes out from between the tile with a damp rag.

    • 7

Place several heavy books onto the seam to hold the tile down. Allow the glue several hours to dry before removing the books.
