How to Remove Vinyl Self-Adhesive Tile From a Bathroom Wall

Self-stick vinyl tiles are attractive and cheap floor coverings that do not take much time to place on the floor. Even though they are lovely when they are placed on the floor, they are often hard to remove when it comes time to remodel. The adhesive used to attach the vinyl tiles to the floor, whether the floor is cement or wood, has a strong bond that requires a strong remover after the vinyl itself has been scraped off.

Things You'll Need

  • Wall scraper
  • Glue dissolvent

  • Soapy warm water

Instructions

    • 1

Open the windows in the room to keep the room properly ventilated.

    • 2

Stick the edge of a wall scraper into the seam between two tiles and push until the corner of a tile is up about an inch. Rip the tile off the floor with your hands. This will leave adhesive and bits of tile on the floor.

    • 3

Scrape the adhesive and bits of tile off the floor with the floor scraper removing as much as possible. It will not remove all of the glue. Continue until all the tiles in the room are removed.

    • 4

Pour a capful of glue dissolvent on a cloth and scrub the floor until the glue is gone.

    • 5

Clean the floor with warm, soapy water and a sponge.
