How to Clean Scuff Marks From Marley Flooring

Tap shoes, dance sneakers, jazz shoes and even ballroom shoes can scuff your Marley flooring during rehearsals, classes and performances. While these scuff marks may not affect dancers, it affects the overall appearance of the floor. Marley flooring refers to a vinyl or linoleum dance floor installed on top of a sprung floor. The production of true Marley flooring came to a halt in 1978, but the name “Marley” has become synonymous with all vinyl or linoleum dance floors.

Instructions

    • 1

Sweep the Marley floor with a soft-bristled broom, then go over the entire floor with a chamois to pick up any missed particles.

    • 2

Attach a green scouring pad to a rotary floor cleaner/sander. You can rent the cleaner/sander at a home improvement store or a rental center.

    • 3

Apply a general-purpose floor cleaner without ammonia, as ammonia can strip the surface off your Marley flooring. Scrub the floor with the rotary floor cleaner, adding cleaner as needed to remove any scuff marks from the floor.

    • 4

Mop the floor with a soft cotton mop and warm water if any residue remains on the flooring. Allow the Marley flooring to dry.
