How to Hide Tile Cracks

Marble Tile

  Wipe the crack area clean with a rag.

  Squirt some liquid poultice into the crack. Fill the crack so that the poultice is level with the surface of the tile. Try not to spill any poultice onto the adjoining tile surfaces. Wipe up any spills immediately.

  Place a wooden block over the filled-in crack. Push down with the block to help push out any air pockets inside the poultice. Allow the poultice to dry for two hours.

  Check the poultice and see if the level is even with the tile surface. Use some fine-grit sandpaper to sand it down slightly if it is uneven.

  Rub some colored floor powder into the poultice with your fingers. Match the color powder with the color of the tile. Work enough powder into the poultice until the color matches the surrounding tile. Allow the powder and poultice to set up and fully cure for 24 hours.

  Buff the crack area with some floor wax to bring out the luster.

Ceramic Tile

  Clean the cracked area of tile by wiping it with a rag or cloth.

  Apply a layer of clear liquid epoxy into the crack. Allow the epoxy to dry, then check and make sure the level is even with the surface of the tile. Add more epoxy until it is level with the tile surface.

  Apply a coat of oil-based paint to the epoxy with a fine artist's brush. Make sure the paint matches the color of your floor tiles. Allow the paint to dry. Clean the paint brush.

  Brush on a coat of clear water-based urethane over the paint with the artist's brush. Allow to dry. Repeat this step two more times for a total of three coats of urethane. Apply three new coats of urethane to the crack every two years if you do not ever replace the tile.
