How to Avoid Scratching the Hardwood With the Couch

Your furniture and flooring are two of the biggest investments made when outfitting and decorating a room. Many homeowners choose hardwood flooring because of its durability, warmth and aesthetic appeal. Yet, its beauty can be tarnished with scratch marks caused by a sofa. While a sealed floor is a good first step in shielding your floor from scratches, you can take other measures to make sure your floor and sofa co-exist without scratch marks coming between them.

Instructions

Place furniture pads underneath each leg of the sofa to avoid scratching the floor with the couch. Put the pads underneath the couch’s legs when moving. When positioned, leave the furniture pads, cut to size, underneath the couch’s legs in the event that the couch is mistakenly slid or moved out of place.

Move the couch with caution. Don’t drag, push or pull without furniture pads in place. Pick the furniture up to move it, if you can. Ask family members or friends to help as needed.

    • 3

Apply a generous layer of wax to the bottom of the couch’s legs to avoid making scratch marks on the floor.

Rest the couch on top of an area rug. Not only is a practical way to avoid the couch from scratching the floor, but it is a good way to highlight the colors in the room.
