Bamboo has several advantages over traditional hardwood flooring materials like maple, oak and pine. Since the plant grows in abundance and it readily repopulates itself, bamboo can be harvested in a sustainable fashion. As a result, it is a popular material for green design. Bamboo fiber also has natural antimicrobial properties and is more resistant to warping than other hardwoods. But despite these benefits, bamboo floors can scratch just as easily as their conventional counterparts. And bamboo floors that have been carbonized are even more susceptible to scratching because the top layer is methodically burnt to create a dark finish. Nonetheless, you can take action to remove scratches from your carbonized bamboo floors.

1
Attempt to buff the scratch out with a clean, dry cloth. Rub the scratch in a gentle, circular motion. If it is a superficial scuff, this action may be enough to restore the surface. If the scratch remains, proceed to the next step.

2
Use an orbital sander to lightly sand the scratched area with 150-grit sandpaper. Wipe away the dust and brush the affected area with same finish as the rest of the carbonized bamboo floor. Wait for the finish to dry completely before proceeding to the next step.

3
Sand the spot lightly with 220-grit sandpaper. Wipe away the dust and apply another coat of finish. Repeat as necessary until the scratched area blends in with the rest of the bamboo floor.

Wait for the final coat of finish to dry completely before walking on the repaired area.
