Carpet snags are temptations for playful kittens and a tripping hazard for guests. Unfortunately, it doesn't take long for a small pull to turn into a major snag. Once you have a large snag, you'll need to cut and repair the problem to avoid an even larger one. Depending on the type of carpet and size tear you are repairing, you can fix these common problems in a few minutes or a few hours. Improve the look of your carpet by fixing obvious snags, especially ones in walkways.

Instructions

  1. Fixing Berber Snags

    • 1

Sweep away any debris from the snag using a small brush. Squirt a small amount of aqueous glue into the edge of the snag.

    • 2

Poke the thread back into the place. Hold it there with a flat-head screwdriver or awl. Squirt another dollop of liquid glue into the carpet snag. Press the next part of the thread into the snag and hold into place with the tool.

    • 3

Continue to work with the glue and the tool until the snag is in place. Allow the glue to cure for six or more hours before walking on or cleaning the carpet.

    Other Carpet Snags

    • 4

Cut away large snags using sharp scissors. Observe the spot you trimmed. Replace the large bare areas with a piece of new carpet.

    • 5

Trim up the new piece of carpet with sharp scissors. Dab the back of the carpet piece with carpet adhesive. Avoid getting the glue on your skin.

    • 6

Position the new piece over the torn area, glue side down. Roll over the repaired area using a rolling pin. Dab up any excess glue using a damp cloth.

    • 7

Allow the carpet to dry six or more hours before vacuuming or walking on it.
